For this body of work I have collected objects found in nature that naturally have holes in them. Leaves eaten by insects, shells predated by other molluscs, an oak gall tunnelled out by the wasp’s grub as it enters the outside world. These are all examples of naturally occurring holes that act as apertures when placed on the front of a darkened box, to act as a pinhole camera.
Here I have attempted to document the final resting places of the objects: their local environment or the actual view that each natural camera had when I discovered it.
The images were created using large format (5” x 4”) slide film. The colours are unadjusted in the digitising process and are the result of the colour-cast from the objects that created the image. Photographs made using a mussel shell for instance, have a purple cast due to the translucence of the blue/black coloured shell.
