Martin Prothero is an artist exploring our human relationship with the natural world. He does this by totally immersing himself in a place: living in one location to fully experience it as an integral part of the natural ecology, not as a human visitor.
Through his process he has developed an intimate dialogue with nature. Working with found materials in harmony with the weather and natural forces, Martin makes work in collaboration with wild animals.
“My work is not so much about a place, but grows from it, ever evolving and changing with the seasons”.

Carbon Light Life has been nominated for the 01SJ Prix Green for Environmental Art, which will be awarded at the 2nd Biennial “01SJ Global festival of Art on the Edge” in San Jose, California.

I am currently focused on photographing all of my existing Carbon Light Life work using a very high quality digital camera. The images are to be taken in sections and stiched together digitally, thus enabling the maximum amount of detail to be recorded. Each work will be printed at actual size to the original. I am pleased with the results so far, as this system compares favourably (is actually better than) the large format film images I had taken of some of the work for the catalogue.
As a result of the digitisation, I will be able to offer the work as an exhibition of prints rather than have the full set-up of wall mounted light-boxes to have to hang.
